With years of experience representing non-utility clients across the six New England States, we are well-equipped to handle matters in this market. We have a deep knowledge of all communications industry segments that have developed in the wake of the federal 1996 Telecommunications Act, including cable television and Internet services, competitive local phone service and wireless service, along with associated rights-of-way and siting issues. Our extensive familiarity with the government agencies that shape and administer communications policies and regulations gives us the perspective necessary to assist clients.

  • obtaining state and local authorizations and approvals, including cable television franchises, communications certificates of public necessity, and convenience and local rights of way approvals
  • participating in proceedings considering changes to state regulatory requirements
  • analyzing and preparing regulatory filings to meet change of control and license transfer notice or approval requirements
  • advising on other compliance issues that arise for clients serving communications customers
RESULTS

Our proven
track record.

  • Represent the purchaser of a Rhode Island-based cable television and Internet company in state agency regulatory proceeding to approve the transfer of cable franchise rights and related regulatory and corporate matters.  
  • Advise clients on municipal wireless facility siting, permitting and cable television service expansion issues.  
  • Represent national telephone service providers in resisting duplicative and unnecessary agency-proposed expansion of regulatory requirements for low income Lifeline telecommunications services.
  • Lead a successful Massachusetts cable industry opposition to a utility agency proposal that would have imposed burdensome and outdated monopoly telecommunications-era consumer requirements on competitive cable television and telecommunications providers and services.
