It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, George A. (Tony) Hewett. Tony practiced at Davis Malm for 37 years.

“Tony will be forever remembered for his passion for his work, clients, family and the firm,” said Davis Malm President, Amy Fracassini. “He was an SBA authority throughout New England with a highly respected reputation in the banking industry, and he was an instrumental part of our firm.”

Tony had extensive experience handling all phases of commercial lending transactions. As a U.S. Small Business Administration-approved specialist, Tony focused on closing and servicing SBA loan transactions, including the 7(a) SBA guaranteed loan program. He worked in the SBA 504 Program for Economic Development, was approved as a Designated 504 Closing Attorney and was a former member of the Board of Directors of New England Certified Development Corporation.

Tony was an integral part of Davis Malm’s community outreach initiatives and led the firm’s support of the annual back-to-school and winter coat drives for the Bedford Veterans Hospital.

When colleagues joined or retired from the firm, Tony beamed with pride when speaking about his colleagues, who had become friends and family over the years. He happily spoke about how Davis Malm provided him the independence to run his practice and service his clients as he needed to do so, and how the firm was “like no other.” Tony’s impassioned speeches will forever echo in our hallways.

Tony earned a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1979 and a B.A. from Bucknell University in 1976.

Before joining Davis Malm, Tony served for four years in the Reagan/Bush Administration, first in Washington, D.C. as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, as the Vice President of Mortgage Finance and as the Special Assistant to the President of the Government National Mortgage Association. Following these engagements, he returned to Boston to serve as Attorney Advisor with the SBA.
