On Thursday, January 27th, Davis Malm joined hundreds of lawyers and advocates for the Equal Justice Coalition’s virtual event, “Talk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid.” The Davis Malm contingent was led by associate Courtney Simmons. The firm has participated in the in-person Walk to the Hill event every year since 2004, and participated in last year’s inaugural virtual Talk to the Hill.

“After the success of last year’s Talk to the Hill, we were excited to return to the virtual event to advocate for the health, safety, financial stability and well-being of low-income residents in the Commonwealth,” said Ms. Simmons. “I’m proud to once again lead the Davis Malm team as we join like-minded attorneys in urging state legislators to provide funding for necessary and important civil legal aid.”

The annual Walk to the Hill, one of the largest lobbying events on Beacon Hill, draws hundreds of lawyers to the State House to request their legislators’ support for civil legal aid funding. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 and 2022 events have been virtual Talk to the Hill meetings. This year, the Equal Justice Coalition’s legislative funding campaign called on state lawmakers to provide $41 million in funding for civil legal aid in the Commonwealth’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget.

Talk to the Hill is sponsored by the Equal Justice Coalition, a collaboration of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association and the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation. The event is co-sponsored by numerous county and specialty bar associations throughout Massachusetts.
