On January 18, Davis Malm & D’Agostine, P.C. and attorney Tony Hewett hosted an event with Acting United States Small Business Administration Regional Administrator Robert H. Nelson on the success and future of SBA loan programs. Since the passage of the Small Business Jobs Act in September 2010, the SBA has delivered on its commitment to enable borrowers and private sector lenders to finance significantly larger, middle market transactions by approving and funding SBA loans up to $5 million and approving and funding debt refinance with 504 Program loans. Mr. Nelson discussed the effectiveness of the SBA $5 million maximum loan amount and 504 debt refinancing. His colleague Anne Hunt, SBA Assistant District Director, addressed the enhancements to the CAPLine Program. Finally, Robert Terravecchia, President of Weymouth Bank, discussed creative uses of the 504 loan program to assist alternative energy providers. According to attorney Hewett, an expert in SBA lending for 27 years, “The willingness of SBA to open lines of communication with the private sector through events like this is very refreshing.”

Attendees included Eastern Bank President Robert Rivers, Holbrook Cooperative Bank President Paul Falvey, South Shore Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Peter Forman, and representatives from other lending institutions.
