On January 28, Davis Malm & D’Agostine, P.C. and attorney Tony Hewett were pleased to host a program “Celebrating Success,” which featured Jeanne A. Hulit, Associate Administrator, Office of Capital Access for the Small Business Administration; Deb Ansourlian, Executive Director of Girls Incorporated of Lynn; and a special performance by singer/songwriter, Berklee College of Music student Samantha Schultz.

Ms. Ansourlian opened the program with a discussion of Girls Incorporated of Lynn, a nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The organization offers enrichment programs that teach essential life skills and promote healthy life choices to disadvantaged, low-income girls ages 6 to 18. These programs focus on academic support, personal development, career exploration and life planning, physical well-being, and leadership and community action. Ms. Hulit provided an overview of SBA activities and lending statistics in 2012 and presented the Administration’s expectations for 2013. Ms. Hulit highlighted enhancements to the SBA Loan Programs to help lead the country out of the Great Recession, including increased loan sizes, fee waivers and greater use of online processing.

Ms. Hulit was named the SBA’s Associate Administrator/Office of Capital Access at headquarters in Washington, DC in February 2012 after serving as acting Associate Administrator since December 2011. She manages and oversees the agency’s programs and operations designed to expand access to capital to the nation’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. Prior to her Washington assignment, Ms. Hulit was appointed by President Obama to serve as SBA’s New England Regional Administrator where she was responsible for the delivery of the agency’s financial assistance, technical assistance, and government contracting activities throughout the six New England states.

The program was concluded with a performance by talented singer/songwriter, Berklee College of Music student Samantha Schultz. Samantha entertained the attendees with an acoustical guitar and vocal performance of several original songs, which fuse folk, blues, and soul. Her ability to deliver powerful live performances has earned her several honors. For more information about Samantha, visit Berklee College of Music.

Attendees included Eastern Bank President Robert Rivers, Home Loan Investment Bank President Brian Murphy, SBA Massachusetts District Director Robert H. Nelson, SBA Massachusetts Assistant District Anne Hunt, and representatives from Coastal Community Capital, First Trade Union Bank, New England Certified Development Corp., People’s United Bank, Rockland Trust, and South Shore Economic Development Corp.

“I am extremely pleased we could host this program,” said Davis Malm attorney Tony Hewett. “We were honored with Jeanne’s and Deb’s positive and inspirational messages that echoed the theme of celebrating success. Samantha’s performance brought everyone to their feet, and we all agree she has a very bright and successful future ahead of her.”
