Practice Focus and Experience
Whitton "Tony" Norris represents parties with respect to complex and sophisticated financial problems related to insolvency or financial default. He has completed numerous successful workouts and out-of-court financial restructures, and has done extensive work in chapter 11 reorganization proceedings. Tony also practices in the areas of complex commercial litigation, sophisticated commercial lending, and corporate matters.

In over twenty-five years of practice, Tony has appeared in state and federal courts all over the country on behalf of institutional lenders, trade creditors, investors, and owners of a wide variety of businesses. In addition, Tony has extensive experience with hotel insolvency, closely held corporate disputes, and sophisticated corporate finance. Tony has lectured on bankruptcy and insolvency matters to the Commercial Law League of America, the National Conference of Bond Attorneys, the National Association of Credit Managers, and before local bar associations and conferences of bankruptcy judges.

  • Assisted in purchase of $500 million hazardous waste division of chapter 11 debtor in Delaware bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Assisted in representing long-standing client with financing of purchase of Los Angeles Dodgers and related real estate.
  • Represented numerous business/professional owners in disputes with other owners.
  • Refinancing of $86 million of senior and subordinate debt for publicly traded company.
  • Successfully confirmed chapter 11 reorganization plan for technology start-up company.
  • Represented plaintiffs in multi-million dollar dispute over plaintiffs' rights under Stock Purchase Agreement.
  • Handled variety of commercial loan defaults, restructurings and bankruptcies of borrowers for numerous secured lenders.
  • Represented state-court receiver of multi-million dollar finance company.
  • Represented several venture capital firms in variety of financially troubled start-up company liquidity crises.
  • Handled numerous defenses of asserted voidable preference claims by bankruptcy trustees and debtors.
  • Successfully defended discontinued food brokerage company in multi-million PACA litigation.
  • Handled dissolution of not-for-profit health care corporation.
  • Represented one side of successful family owned business in receivership due to disputes over control with other family members.
  • Rendered nonconsolidation opinions for Single Purpose Entities (SPEs) on transactions up to $250 million in value.
