Practice Focus and Experience
John Serino practices in the Land Use and Real Estate group. His practice encompasses all types of real estate transactions for buyers, sellers, borrowers and lenders, including structuring of purchase, sale and lease transactions, arranging for financing, attending to supervision of loan closings for buyers, borrowers and lenders, and examination of title and issuance of title insurance policies. John also represents out-of-state lenders as local counsel for transactions involving Massachusetts property or regulatory and governmental issues. John also represents individuals in business and personal contractual matters.

Prior to joining Davis Malm in 1993, John was the senior and founding partner of Serino, Ley, Young, and Grumbach. During his years at that firm, John also acted as a lobbyist at the state and federal levels for several real estate and banking groups and acted as general and special counsel for several banking and financial institutions.

Representative Matters
  • The review, approval and issuance of title policies for major real estate acquisitions and refinancings.
  • Has been engaged by numerous out-of-state lenders to review lending documents for compliance with Massachusetts law.
  • Acted as general counsel for small banks and mortgage companies advising them with respect to corporate, regulatory, employment and general business matters.
  • Provided advice to real estate developers and entrepreneurs with regard to the selection of appropriate business entity, governance, regulatory matters and contract advice.

  • A director of Farr Academy in Cambridge, a private not-for-profit school for aggressive and troubled children.
  • Volunteer at the "Lawyer For the Day Program" in the Suffolk County Probate and Family Court where he advises and helps low-income and unrepresented individuals with their varied legal problems.
