On January 17, 2019, Davis Malm shareholders Richard Hindlian and Andrew Myers presented on “Tax Considerations for Emerging Cannabis Businesses” at the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (MSCPA) State Tax Conference. The program provided an overview of Massachusetts cannabis law and state and federal tax issues. It also explored the considerations for organizations converting from non-profit to for-profit entities, examined ways in which state taxes vary for medical and recreational marijuana businesses, and reviewed the tax repercussions for businesses under Section 280E of the Internal Revenue Code.

The MSCPA, a 501(c)6 organization, is the state’s premier professional organization with more than 11,000 members in public accounting, industry and business, government and education.
