On August 3, Davis Malm shareholder George A. (Tony) Hewett, participated in a panel at America East 2017, an annual conference for U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) lenders. Mr. Hewett’s panel, “SBA 504: What Happens After Closing,” was designed to help the lead bank and SBA licensed certified development companies (CDCs) understand the SBA closing issues that could impact, or even delay, funding of an SBA loan. The panel discussed the SBA District Office approval process. Attendees also heard best practices from the panelists to help ensure a pleasant borrower experience during and after the settlement process.
Mr. Hewett practices in the Business Law area at Davis Malm, focusing his practice on commercial lending, real estate finance, and public finance. He has extensive experience in handling all phases of commercial lending transactions, including closings, portfolio management activities and workouts involving bankruptcy, litigation and liquidation of assets through foreclosure and/or secured party sales. For the past 30 years, Mr. Hewett has been lead counsel in representing national, regional, and local bank and non-bank lenders, closing on over 3,500 transactions during this time throughout New England and the United States.
